Asphalt Paving Schedule

The paving sequence for the upcoming week is as follows:

  • Monday: Place first lift on Hawthorn.
  • Tuesday: Finish second lift on IL Route 60. Begin second lift on Lakeview.
  • Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: Continue with second lift on Lakeview.
  • Friday & Saturday: Second lift on Hawthorn.

Weather permitting, the Contractor expects to be complete with asphalt paving by the end of this week.

Heavy traffic delays are expected when the contractor is paving. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes to avoid the work zone if possible.


Asphalt Paving Delayed for Weather

Peter Baker & Sons has cancelled work for today due to weather.

The paving operation is scheduled to resume on Thursday 11/9 at 7:00 AM.

Heavy traffic delays are expected when the contractor is paving. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes to avoid the work zone if possible.


Asphalt to Resume

Peter Baker & Sons is scheduled to resume asphalt paving work on Wednesday 11/8 at 7:00 AM.

Work will begin on Lakeview at IL 60 (Townline Road) and head south towards Fairway.

Heavy traffic delays are expected when the contractor is paving. Motorists are encouraged to utilize alternate routes to avoid the work zone if possible.

Peter Baker & Sons has notified IDOT and Vernon Hills that the asphalt crew will stay on site and pave the north section of Lakeview and Hawthorn on Thursday and Friday.


Asphalt Paving Schedule – TRAFFIC ALERT

Peter Baker & Sons and Alliance Contractors have provided IDOT and Vernon Hills with the following look-ahead paving schedule:

  • Friday 11/3: Peter Baker & Sons will pave the first lift of new asphalt on IL Route 60 (Townline Road)
  • Saturday 11/4: Peter Baker & Sons will pave the first lift of new asphalt on Lakeview between Fairway and Phillip Drive

The paving schedule for next week has not been provided by the Contractors.

TRAFFIC ALERT – Surface Grinding to Begin Week of 10/23

The crews working on Lakeview Parkway have made significant progress in the last few weeks.

  • Alliance has poured concrete almost every day in September to construct the curb, center medians and sidewalk.
  • Home Towne is about 75% complete with the installation of new conduit and foundations for the electrical items traffic signals and roadway lighting
  • Espinoza Landscaping has been able to place topsoil and sod where work is complete. The north and south sides of Hawthorn, the east side of Lakeview and north side of IL Route 60 have been final stabilized with sod.

Here are some of the major work items expected in the upcoming weeks:
Week of 10/16 – Alliance will continue placing concrete for the new curb and medians on Lakeview. New concrete curb across the entrance to the Hawthorn Commons Shopping Center will be constructed. Access to the shopping center will be maintained at all times. Home Towne will continue to work on electrical items along Lakeview from IL 60 to Phillip.
Week of 10/23 – TRAFFIC ALERT Peter Baker is scheduled to surface grind the old pavement on Lakeview, Hawthorn and IL 60. Grinding work will take four to five days to complete. Traffic will be driving on a rough grooved surface while this work is occurring.
Week of 10/30 – Asphalt patching and the first lift of new resurfacing asphalt will be placed. New concrete median on Hawthorn will also be built. The final lift of new asphalt surface pavement will be paved. Traffic should be running on new surface pavement by early November.

The Contractors remain on schedule to have all new lanes open and contract work significantly complete by the end of November.

Asphalt Milling and Resurfacing Starting in About Two Weeks

As the calendar turns to October the sense of urgency amongst the Contractors has certainly increased. The project is approximately 40% complete overall. Weather permitting, the Contractors are on schedule to have all new traffic lanes open by the November 30th substantial completion date.

Peter Baker & Sons has completed the full depth asphalt widening on Hawthorn, Lakeview and IL 60. Shallow depth surface milling, full depth patching and asphalt resurfacing work will begin in about two weeks. A separate traffic alert will released when that work is officially scheduled.

Home Towne Electric has multiple crews working on installation of the underground conduit and foundations for the new traffic signals and roadway lighting. The underground work at Hawthorn & Lakeview is 75% complete and the work at IL 60 & Lakeview is 25% complete. Pouring concrete for the light pole foundations will continue for the next few weeks.

Alliance Construction will continue to have multiple crews on site and is expected to continue working 6 days a week:

  • The new curb and gutter along the outside edge of roadway is 95% complete. Alliance is now working on framing and pouring the new median islands on IL 60, Lakeview and Hawthorn.
  • Framing and pouring of the new sidewalk on Hawthorn is nearly complete. New sidewalk on the east and west sides of Lakeview will continue to progress from north to south.


Reminder that there are multiple work operations happening on site each day. Please be alert when driving through the construction zone and follow the directions of the Flaggers.

Sewer Installation Nearing 50% Complete and Roadway Work Gearing Up

The contractors working on the Lakeview Parkway project are starting to gain some momentum.
The most noticeable progress is along Hawthorn where Alliance has started to pour the the new concrete curb and gutter. The curb framing and installation show how much wider Hawthorn will be when the work is complete. New sidewalk will be installed on both the north and south side of Hawthorn.

Alliance will finish excavation and placement of stone base for roadway widening along Hawthorn by the end of next week. Curb and gutter installation along Hawthorn that began on Tuesday will continue to follow closely behind the excavation crew as locations are prepared.

Storm sewer installation by Lenny Hoffman is 45% complete and should be finished in three weeks (by Friday 8/25). Lenny Hoffman remaining work locations:

  • The north parkway of IL 60 east of Lakeview
  • Lakeview just north of IL 60
  • Lakeview between Phillip and IL 60

Other Contractors expected on site in the next few weeks that have not provided specific dates are:

  • Peter Baker for the placement of new Hot Mix Asphalt pavement
  • Home Towne to work on new roadway lighting and traffic signal installation.

The current traffic configuration will be in place until late September. 

The project is approximately 25% complete overall.

The contractors working on the Lakeview Parkway project are starting to gain some momentum.

Traffic Control Alerts

New Traffic Control Stage

On Tuesday, June 20, Highway Safety will set up the Stage 1 traffic configuration on Lakeview, IL 60 and Hawthorn.

  • Traffic will be shifted to the center on Lakeview and Hawthorn.
  • Lakeview will be reduced to one through lane and one left turn lane in each direction from Center to Phillip.
  • Hawthorn will be reduced to one through lane and one left turn lane.
  • One of the eastbound left turn lanes on IL 60 will be closed.
  • The westbound right turn lane on IL 60 will be closed.

Motorists should expect longer travel times on Lakeview and Hawthorn due to the lane reductions. It is recommended that motorists use alternate routes to avoid traveling through the construction zone.

Bikepath Closure and Detour

On Tuesday, June 20, Highway Safety will close the sidewalk along the west side of Lakeview from Phillip to IL 60. A signed detour route will be set up on Phillip, Deerpath and IL 60. The attached exhibit, Lakeview Sidewalk Detour, shows the complete route.

The project construction schedule provided by Alliance shows that both Stage 1 Traffic Configuration and Sidewalk Detour will be in place until early September 2023.


June Updates 

Construction Update
The amount of work activities on the Lakeview Parkway Widening project is going to increase in June. Here is a preview of what can be expected this month.


Week of June 5th

  • Home Towne will continue to install the temporary traffic signal equipment at Hawthorn & Lakeview and at IL 60 & Lakeview.
  • Home Towne will work to install the temporary lighting fixtures and aerial cable along Hawthorn and Lakeview.


Week of June 12th

  • Alliance is scheduled to remove the median island on Hawthorn west of Lakeview, the median island at the entrance of the shopping center and the median island on Lakeview just north of Phillip.
  • Peter Baker will pave Hot Mix Asphalt pavement to replace the three islands listed above.
  • Thursday June 15: Home Towne will activate the two temporary traffic signals at Hawthorn & Lakeview and IL 60 & Lakeview. Removal of existing traffic signal equipment will begin the same day.
  • Friday June 16: Alliance will remove the two triangle shaped islands on IL 60 at Lakeview and Peter Baker will pave the islands with new Hot Mix Asphalt.


Week of June 19th

  • Highway Safety will implement Stage 1 traffic control on Lakeview, Hawthorn and IL 60. A separate Traffic Alert notice will be sent out once Alliance and Highway Safety have scheduled a specific date for the traffic stage change.
  • Highway Safety will implement the HMA bike-path detour
  • Alliance will begin the removal curb & gutter, sidewalk and HMA bike-path throughout the project.
  • Lenny Hoffman will begin installation of new storm sewer.


Private Utility Work

  • AT&T crews will also be onsite throughout June installing new cable.
  • North Shore Gas crews are expected to be on site the week of 6/19.
  • ComEd crews are expected to be on site the week of 6/19.
